The following is a list of resources that are typically requested to complete the optional viral hepatitis testing activity during NHBS-PWID for one year.

Personnel

• Field staff (part-time) with sufficient level of effort for the following activities:
  • Phlebotomy
• Data manager (part-time) to perform viral hepatitis data management duties

Supplies

• Hepatitis C rapid test kits
• Supplies for blood specimen collection (for example, butterfly blood draw sets, vacutainer tubes, tube racks, personal protective equipment, centrifuge (if required))
• Supplies for shipping or transfer of specimens to participating laboratory (for example, packaging, cooler)

Laboratory Testing

• Hepatitis C RNA tests (RNA PCR testing among all participants to detect acute HCV infection)
• Hepatitis B core antibody
• Hepatitis B surface antigen
• Hepatitis B surface antibody

Other

• Viral hepatitis testing incentives (for example, $10*550 participants)
• Shipping or transfer of blood specimens to participating laboratory
• Storage of samples at participating laboratory until testing is performed (if necessary)
