OE20-2001: Enhancing Public Health Laboratory Capabilities and Increasing Capacity

The Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services (CSELS), Division of Laboratory Systems (DLS) manages this five-year umbrella cooperative agreement (CoAg) between CDC and the Association of Public Health Laboratoriesexternal icon (APHL) under OE20-2001: Enhancing Public Health Laboratory Capabilities and Increasing Capacity. Building upon previous and currently funded CoAgs with APHL, this agreement aims to improve public health in the United States and globally, by enhancing the effectiveness and functionality of public health laboratories (PHLs) individually and as components of a national system. This agreement was announced in the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) OE20-2001: Enhancing Public Health Laboratory Capabilities and Increasing Capacity. Funding Period

Budget period length: 12 months (July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021)

Period of Performance: 5 years (July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2025)

This CoAg supports strategies and activities that will enhance the capabilities and increase the capacities of PHLs in nine focus areas:

  • Environmental health
  • Foodborne, waterborne, and environmentally transmitted diseases
  • Infectious diseases
  • Informatics
  • Newborn screening and genetics
  • Preparedness and response
  • Quality and safety systems
  • Workforce development
