Making HIV and STD Data Interactive

The newly released NCHHSTP Atlas complements the annual HIV/AIDS and STD surveillance reports. Specifically, AIDS, HIV, Chlamydia, gonorrhea, and primary and secondary syphilis data are included in the Atlas. The application features an interactive query function that allows you to compare rates and cases by state, gender, race/ethnicity, age group, transmission category (HIV/AIDS only), and year.

NCHHSTP's Atlas also provides the ability to view animated data trends, offers mapping options, and allows export of data to Excel, and PDF. The Atlas is built on geographic information system (GIS) software allowing for more emphasis on mapping, display, and analyses. And all of the maps, tables, pie charts, and bar graphs included in the Atlas are interactive.

This state-of-the-art application gives community leaders, public health professionals, policymakers, health care providers, and students a tool that offers innovation to better visualize and understand trends of these often overlapping diseases. Prevention planners can use the Atlas to better determine the most effective, high-impact use of resources and prevention services related to the diseases of focus.

CDC will expand the functionality of the Atlas in 2012. TB and viral hepatitis data will be added by mid-year. County-level data also will be made available.
