Reporting area

In the National Vital Statistics System, the reporting area for basic items on the birth and death certificates such as age, race, and sex is based on data from residents of all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and New York City. The term “reporting area” may be used interchangeably with the term “registration area.” (Also see Sources and Definitions, Registration area; National Vital Statistics System [NVSS].)
