This map will be used to identify potential pharmacy partners where medication adherence strategies or interventions can be targeted for collaborative work between the Wisconsin Chronic Disease Prevention Program, the Wisconsin Division of Medicaid Services, and the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin using antihypertensive medication nonadherence burden.

Wisconsin Medicaid pharmacy claims data for 2014, 2015 and 2016; Community and Retail Pharmacies from the National Provider Identifier Registry, National Plan and Provider Enumeration System, 2014 (taxonomy code 336C0003X) provided by Rice University; Wisconsin Pharmacy Quality Collaborative pharmacy locations provided by Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin.

Prevalence of blood pressure medication nonadherence calculated using the number of Medicaid members that are identified as nonadherent out of the total number of Medicaid members taking blood pressure medications within each census tract. Medicaid member identified as nonadherent when there is less than 80% proportion of days covered with blood pressure medications. The census tract was associated with the Medicaid member’s address on record. Prevalence of nonadherence was mapped using the quantile classification method in ArcGIS 10.3.
