Dr. Yael K. Heher serves as the first Chief Quality Officer at Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH). In this newly created executive position, Dr. Heher will lead the BILH system’s strategy for quality and safety. Most recently, Dr. Heher served as the Associate Chief of Pathology Quality and Safety and Head of Renal Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital and as Vice Chair of Quality and Safety for Mass General Brigham (MGB) Enterprise Lab Service, where she led the formation of a new MGB system-wide quality and safety division focused on diagnostic error. She holds numerous national leadership roles in quality and safety, including chairing the Association of Pathology Chairs Training Residents in Patient Safety workgroup, mandated to design and implement a nationwide patient safety curriculum for pathology trainees. She also sits on various College of American Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology committees, including those tasked with quality and safety oversight and federal and state policy. She has a special interest in patient and employee safety and risk.
