The Economics for Policy Seminar Series
The mission of CDC’s Office of the Associate Director for Policy & Strategy (OPPE) is to identify and advance opportunities to use policy, leverage health system transformation and engage other sectors to improve the public’s health. Since 2015, OPPE’s Policy Research, Analysis, and Development Office (PRADO) has conducted the Economics for Policy seminar series (E4P), an ongoing series of presentations, workshops, webinars, and trainings on a variety of topics relating to the use of economic evidence in policy decisions.

Hosted by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), this presentation highlights the priorities, goals, and activities of OADP’s Policy Research, Analysis, and Development Office (PRADO), and reveals how PRADO uses innovative approaches to help estimate the health, economic, and budgetary impacts of policy interventions, and inform the prioritization of health policies. As an example, the presentation features results from a scenario-based model developed by PRADO to help explore the potential impacts of reaching the 65% nationwide blood pressure control target of the Million Hearts® initiative.

Summary:
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is a group of medical and public health experts that provides input to the Director of the CDC on how to use vaccines to control diseases in the United States. Data on cost-effectiveness and other economic impacts are often used by ACIP members to support the development of recommendations for vaccination strategies. This presentation provides an overview of guidance developed by the economists at CDC to ensure that the economic data used by ACIP is understandable, of the highest quality, and uniform in presentation.
