About Public Health Leadership and Education, Advancing Health Equity and Data Science (PH LEADS)

Overview

The Public Health Leadership and Education, Advancing Health Equity and Data Science (PH LEADS) program identifies and supports best practices in:

• Leadership
• Data science education
• Training
• Recruitment
• Retention

These efforts strengthen population and public health workforce pathways and help build a more competent and diverse public and population health workforce.

Strategies and outcomes

PH LEADS activities are organized into three strategic components. PH LEADS partners work across one or more of the four program strategies, with respective outcomes.

PH LEADS partners are organizations that received funding through OE22-2201: Strengthening the Population & Public Health Workforce Pipeline Cooperative Agreement.

National Partner Associations

Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH)

ASPPH represents schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). ASPPH members are CEPH-accredited schools and programs of public health as well as schools and programs in applicant status for CEPH-accreditation.

These accredited schools have over 12,000 teaching and research faculty and educate more than 28,000 students annually from every state in the U.S. and worldwide. These schools graduate approximately 9,700 public health professionals each year.

Established in 1953, ASPPH promotes the efforts of CEPH-accredited academic institutions to strengthen research and advance the practice of public health at the national and global levels to improve the health of our communities.

Working with federal partners, ASPPH also provides mentored training experiences for students at federal government offices in the U.S. and around the world through a wide selection of public health fellowship and internship programs.

National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI)

NNPHI is the central hub for public health institutes working to improve public health in the U.S. Mobilizing more than 40-member public health institutes, NNPHI connects over 8,000 subject-matter experts with organizational partners across the nation.

With an expansive organizational presence and activities across all 50 states, the national network is a go-to resource for analysis and best practices. They provide important network connections for communities, government agencies, foundations, the health care delivery system, media, and academia.

National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF)

NHHF was established in 1994 in Washington, DC, as the philanthropic arm of the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA). The mission of the foundation supports educational and research activities to improve the health of Hispanics.

In 2003, the NHMA was awarded a Congressional Earmark to develop the foundation with the support of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Senator Arlen Specter, and Congressman Ralph Regula.

In 2005, NHHF became affiliated with and located at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, at New York University.

In 2021, NHHF, with its Corporate Advisory Board, developed the National Center for Hispanic Health Research.
