BEAM Dashboard Updated to Include More Information on Salmonella

The BEAM Dashboard provides timely data on pathogen trends and serotype details to inform prevention efforts. On April 14, the dashboard was updated to include additional analyses that provide more information on Salmonella illnesses linked to outbreaks, by serotype, and outbreak illness trajectory for beef, turkey, chicken, and pork products. This information is intended to help partners prioritize serotypes for outbreak prevention. These automated analytic features will be expanded to include produce products. CDC is currently accepting feedback on the BEAM Dashboard, so please take the evaluation survey or contact simso@cdc.gov for any questions or feedback.

Today’s Food Safety Tip

Keep these tips in mind as you start to grill this season:

  • Keep raw meat, poultry, and seafood separate from other food to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Thaw meat, poultry, and seafood safely in the refrigerator, cold water, or microwave.
  • Cook meat, poultry, and seafood to a high enough temperature to kill germs.
  • Before grilling, clean the grill surface with a moist cloth or paper towel. If you use a wire bristle brush, thoroughly inspect the grill’s surface before cooking. Wire bristles from grill cleaning brushes may dislodge and stick into food on the grill.
