06/08/2018: Lab Advisory: CDC Recommendations for Managing and Reporting Shigella Infections with Possible Reduced Susceptibility to Ciprofloxacin
Audience: Clinical and public health laboratories
Level: Laboratory Advisory – Provides important information for a specific incident or situation; contains recommendations or actionable items to be performed by public health officials, laboratorians, and/or clinicians; may not require immediate action
Dear LOCS members,
The CDC Health Alert Network recently published an update to the current recommendations on management and reporting of Shigella infections that have been treated with ciprofloxacin or azithromycin, and resulted in possible clinical treatment failure. (See the original HAN, published on April 18, 2017.)
Clinicians are the principal intended target for this update, but we would like all clinical and public health laboratories to be aware of these recommendations because they may result in laboratories receiving additional samples for testing or requests for technical consultation.
Sincerely,
Laboratory Outreach Communication System
