CDC Science Clips: Volume 5, Supplement 2, December 9

Welcome to Science Clips, CDC's weekly digest!

The 'Public Health Laboratory Systems' supplement contains fifteen articles and commentaries that address issues, developments, and opportunities critical to CDC's public health priorities. Public health laboratories provide actionable information for disease prevention and control nationally and in every U.S. community. The supplement includes a report on the CDC-initiated Laboratory Efficiencies Initiative (LEI), a partnership initiative that is building a sustainable, national public health laboratory system. Other articles review the implications for public health laboratories of such dramatic developments as health care reform, electronic health records, and new analytic technologies. Still other articles describe important initiatives by state and local public health leaders to further improve laboratory quality systems, develop the professional laboratory workforce, and conduct practical research on the public health laboratory system.
