The GDD Operations Center Team has an access to and relationship with the CDC wide subject matter experts, which allows the Epidemiologist-Analysts to seek expertise and verification on potential international outbreaks or threats. The prompt and complete response from the SMEs in a timely fashion strengthens the surveillance activities. By undertaking rapid information gathering, prompt verification and timely dissemination of the information to CDC leadership and CDC wide programs, GDD Operations Center positions CDC in a status of response preparedness. Based on this, CDC response teams have been deployed internationally within 24 hours of being made aware of the outbreak.

The GDD Operations Center is situated within the CDC's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and becomes the nexus with the international team in the incident management structure when the EOC is activated to respond to an international disease event.  The GDD Operations Center has participated in following recent EOC activations as members of different task force teams as well as led teams.
