COVID-19 Genomic Epidemiology Toolkit Developer: Hayley Yaglom, MS, MPH

Hayley Yaglom

One Health Genomics Epidemiologist

Pathogen and Microbiome Division
Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen North)
(AMD Partner)

Hayley Yaglom reviewed content for the CDC SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Epidemiology Toolkit and provided feedback. Alongside colleagues from TGen, she created a Toolkit module that uses a Nexstrain Narrative to tell the Arizona COVID-19 story. TGen has sequenced and analyzed over 5,000 SARS-CoV-2 genomes, making this sequencing effort one of the most extensive in the nation. TGen is promoting the importance of applying genomic epidemiology to SARS-CoV-2 and other emerging infectious pathogens.

Ms. Yaglom has a broad background in public health and epidemiology, with training in veterinary medicine, infectious diseases, and genomic surveillance. As a One Health Genomics Epidemiologist, Ms. Yaglom helps characterize the genomic epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 for the state of Arizona and serves as partner liaison for TGen’s Clinical Laboratory. She previously worked at the Arizona Department of Health Services as a Senior Vector-borne and Zoonotic Disease Epidemiologist. There, she conducted disease surveillance, preparedness, prevention, and outreach activities with state, local, and tribal partners across Arizona. Ms. Yaglom received her MPH in Veterinary Public Health from the University of Missouri and MS in Animal Biotechnology from the University of Massachusetts.

“It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to contribute to this COVID-19 Genomic Epidemiology Toolkit while showcasing the extensive work of the Arizona COVID-19 Genomics Union (ACGU) concerning SARS-CoV-2 sequencing in Arizona. We are dedicated to helping build new partnerships, strengthen and foster existing collaborations with public health agencies, and expand the genomic epidemiology workforce’s capacity.”
