NPPTL Respirator Assessments to Support the COVID-19 Response

Updated April 16, 2021

Important Update

As a consequence of the removal of these crisis capacity strategies, NPPTL will no longer conduct any of the Respirator Assessments to Support the COVID-19 Response.

Decontaminated Assessment Results

NPPTL has completed Decontaminated Assessments for the products listed below.

While decontamination and reuse of FFRs are not consistent with standard and approved usage, these options may need to be considered when FFR shortages exist. This assessment was developed to quantify the filtration efficiency and manikin fit factor of an N95 respirator that has been decontaminated. This assessment is not to determine the effectiveness of the decontamination procedure at killing pathogenic microorganisms. Respirators with exhalation valves are included in this assessment and are evaluated as received by NPPTL for manikin fit testing. Exhalation valves are sealed with wax for filtration testing and therefore, the performance of the exhalation valve is not examined for the filtration test. The results provided in this report are specific to the subset of samples that were provided to NPPTL for assessment. These results may be used to update the CDC guidance for Crisis Capacity Strategies (during known shortages).

* Testing for this model did not meet the requirements of the Decontaminated Respirator Assessment Plan because an insufficient number of samples were provided to NIOSH for 1 or more tests. Therefore, results are posted for the number of samples available. Please see results report for actual number of samples evaluated for filtration efficiency, manikin fit, and strap performance.
