New and Updated Chemicals Available

CDC’s National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals (referred to as the Report) includes summary data for chemicals that have results available from NHANES starting with the 1999–2000 cycle. The Report is cumulative and includes all data tables previously published. This version of the Report:

  • Now includes data from NHANES 2017–2018
  • Adds five data tables for three chemicals reported for the first time or measured in a new matrix
  • Updates 131 data tables for 97 chemicals measured in blood, serum, or urine specimens
  • Incorporates 19 data tables for 18 chemicals previously published as “Early Releases”

Chemicals reported for the first time and those measured in a new matrix include:

Metals and Metalloids

  • Urinary Chromium – these tables summarize data from NHANES 2017–2018 and complement blood chromium data, which have been updated and now include data from the 2015–2016 and 2017–2018 NHANES cycles. Among other uses, chromium data inform results of chromium biomonitoring in patients who have undergone joint replacement.
  • Urinary Nickel – these tables summarize data from NHANES 2017–2018.

Volatile Organic Compounds

  • Blood Methyl Isobutyl Ketone – this table summarizes data from NHANES 2011–2012. All percentile estimates were below the limit of detection.

Chemicals with updated data include:
