Self-care is Healthcare: A Winning Diet

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. In the past five years, Black adults were 30 percent more likely to be obese than white adults.1 People who are overweight are more likely to suffer from high blood pressure, high levels of fat in their blood, diabetes, and high levels of cholesterol, which are all major risk factors for heart disease and stroke. One person dies every 34 seconds in the U.S., from cardiovascular disease.2 A healthy diet, exercise, and reducing stress where possible are steps that can reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease. Remember, your self-care is health care.
