Aging Adult Services
The Eldercare Locator
The Eldercare Locator is a public service of the Administration on Aging (AoA), an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Community Living. This service connects older adults and their families with local support services like home care, meals or transportation.
- Call the hotline at 1-800-677-1116. Information specialists are available Monday-Friday 9am-8pm ET to answer your questions.
- Visit the Eldercare Locator website to learn about support services, housing, elder rights, insurance and other resources.
- Chat with an information specialist . Live chat with an information specialist to have your questions answered quickly (available during normal hours of operation).
NYC Department for the Aging

Domestic violence services
The National Domestic Violence Hotline
If you or someone you know is unsafe at home, consider making a safety plan. Safety planning involves finding ways to remain safe while in, leaving, or after leaving a relationship. Creating a safety plan can help victims, or their family and friends, work through a difficult and even dangerous situation.
- Call the Hotline at 1-800-SAFE (7233). Highly trained advocates are available 24/7 to talk confidentially with anyone in the U.S. who is experiencing domestic violence, seeking information, or questioning unhealthy aspects of their relationship.
- Chat with an advocate. If it is not safe to call, another option available is chatting live through the website’s chat service. The same service that can be received by phone is available through the live chat feature.
- Visit the National Domestic Violence Hotline .

Financial services
Federal Help with Bills
Through grants or relief packages, many can find help from programs available through federal resources. If you are having trouble paying your bills, visit the Help with Bills page at USA.gov .
Local Assistance
Local financial assistance might be available through 211 or United Way . Check to see if these organizations are present in your region.
Filing for Unemployment
Have you recently lost your job? Check Careeronestop to see if you are eligible for unemployment benefits or select your state from the Find Unemployment Benefits tool to learn about your state’s assistance programs and how to apply.

Federal help with Phone Service
A discount phone and broadband service is available for qualifying low-income households. To see if you are eligible, visit Do I Qualify? .
The Lifeline Program is part of the Universal Service Fund and administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Food and nutrition services
SNAP
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP is a program offered by the Food and Nutrition Services under the U.S. Department of Agriculture. SNAP provides benefits to supplement household food budgets for families in need.
