Stated Preference for Cancer Screening: A Systematic Review of the Literature, 1990–2013

PEER REVIEWED

We identified 143 records in PubMed and 14 in EconLit. After removing duplicates, 150 articles remained. Abstracts and titles of these 150 records were screened, and 114 were excluded based on the eligibility criteria. We acquired the full text of the remaining 36 articles and assessed their entire text based on the eligibility criteria. After this assessment, we excluded 14 of the 36 articles, because cancer was not the primary focus of the article, cancer treatment or end points rather than cancer prevention was the focus of the article, the study was not a CA or DCE study, the article was not published in English, or the sample included only physicians. A final group of 22 articles remained for inclusion in the qualitative synthesis.

Figure. Identification and selection of articles for review. Abbreviations: CA, conjoint analysis; DCE, discrete-choice experiment; HPV, human papillomavirus; USPSTF, US Preventive Services Task Force.
