Active Bacterial Core surveillance (ABCs) activities, including data collection, management, and principal analyses, result from collaboration among three groups at CDC.
Respiratory Diseases Branch
The Respiratory Diseases Branch designs and conducts epidemiologic studies, as well as tracks and characterizes isolates, for the following ABCs organisms:
- group A Streptococcus
- group B Streptococcus
- Legionella
- Streptococcus pneumoniae
Meningitis and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch
The Meningitis and Vaccine Preventable Diseases Branch designs and conducts epidemiologic studies, as well as tracks and characterizes isolates, for the following organisms:
- Bordetella pertussis
- Haemophilus influenzae
- Neisseria meningitidis
Biostatistics Office
The Biostatistics Office provides statistical expertise for disease outbreak investigations, research studies, and surveillance data analyses. The office adapts existing analytical methodology and develops new techniques for statistical applications.
