Data Files

There are 264,684 records for 2003. More information on participation is available in the States Conducting Surveillance by Year table. The data files are provided in ASCII, dBase, and SAS Transport formats. The July 16 update removed 1662 records for Hawaii because of concerns about data collection procedures, and the July 22 update corrected the _FRTINDX and _FV5SRV variables. The October 8 update corrected miscoded race values in four months of data from Illinois. SMART BRFSS and BRFSS GIS Maps data and documentation are also available for this data year.

This file was exported from SAS V8.2 in the XPT transport format. This file contains 294 variables. This format can be imported into SPSS or STATA. Please note: some of the variable labels get truncated in the process of converting to the XPT format so they may be slightly different from what is on the SASOUT03.SAS program.
