This year, CDC recognizes the more than fifteen years of global progress against the HIV epidemic and celebrates the over 17 million lives saved through U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). As a key implementer of PEPFAR, CDC plays a unique role – bringing a combination of scientific and technical expertise and on-the-ground experience to bear in the fight against the world’s two deadliest infectious diseases – HIV and TB. Our expertise has been a vital part of global efforts to stop these dual epidemics in their tracks. At the core of our expertise is our people.
In commemoration of this progress, we are excited to share with you a suite of social media cards celebrating those at the forefront of CDC’s global response against HIV and TB. These images and stories, captured by world-renowned photographer Thom Pierce, showcase extraordinary stories of changemakers, experts, innovators, and caregivers whose efforts are helping to transform the fight against these diseases-–at the very epicenter of the epidemics. They also offer a snapshot into the critical work CDC and partners are leading, around the world, as part of PEPFAR.
