Even in the face of a pandemic, the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) continues to save millions of lives as a leader in the global response to HIV. To date, PEPFAR has saved more than 20 million lives, and helped more than 17 million people get access to life-saving HIV treatment in 2020 alone. As a key implementing partner, CDC plays a critical role in these efforts – bringing scientific and on-the-ground expertise to bear in the fight against HIV. In fact, a new analysis shows that, in 2020, CDC’s global efforts to treat and prevent HIV contributed to more than half of all key PEPFAR outcomes. Most notably, the analysis shows that last year, CDC supported antiretroviral treatment for 40 percent of all people on HIV treatment worldwide.
