DMI lays out five key priorities that will strengthen and unify critical public health data across our nation to better serve the American people. These priorities are interconnected, and all are equally important to reaching the future state.

As we work toward these priorities, our efforts will continue to align with the work of our public health and healthcare partners who have been critical in supporting, shaping, and executing DMI, as well as with key federal policies and strategies.

building the right foundation

Building the Right Foundation: We’re improving data collection, analysis, and sharing at CDC and across a set of core public health surveillance systems that are used for all diseases and conditions. This priority includes real-time data collection, cloud-based services, automation, and state and local capabilities.

accelerating data into action

Accelerating Data into Action: We’re tapping into more data sources, promoting health equity and increasing capacities for scalable outbreak response, forecasting and predictive analytics. This priority includes open data, novel approaches, interoperability, linkages and privacy.

developing a state-of-the-art workforce

Developing a State-of-the-Art Workforce: We’re building and using next-generation skills for actionable public health insights. This priority includes recruitment, training opportunities, forecasting future needs, state and local support and other related projects and activities.

supporting and extending partnerships

Supporting and Extending Partnerships: CDC and our partners are ensuring transparency, addressing policy challenges and solving problems together. This priority includes policies, access, data use agreements, collaboration, and other ways we’re connecting people around data modernization.

managing change and governance

Managing Change and Governance: We’re making sure resources are used wisely, monitoring progress and supporting strategic innovation for new ways of thinking and working. This priority includes change management, governance, monitoring and evaluation, acquisition, and more.
