Use and Effectiveness of Quitlines for Smokers With Diabetes: Cessation and Weight Outcomes, Washington State Tobacco Quit Line, 2008
The figure is a flow chart that diagrams the recruitment and selection process for a survey of eligible tobacco users who registered for services with the quitline from May 1, 2008, through September 30, 2008. Six hundred quitline participants were eligible to participate. Of these, 261 had diabetes and 339 did not. In the group of potential respondents with diabetes, 150 eligible participants were lost: 28 refused to participate; 46 had a wrong or disconnected telephone number; 69 could not be reached after multiple attempts; 7 were ill or deceased or did not complete the survey. Of the group without diabetes, 208 were lost: 20 refused to participate; 70 had a wrong or disconnected telephone number; 112 could not be reached after multiple attempts; 6 were ill or deceased or did not complete the survey. The final sample was 242 participants (111 with diabetes, 131 without diabetes).
