DATA SOURCE: Based on data collected from January-June 2001 in the Sample Adult Core component of the 2001 National Health Interview Survey.

NOTES: This measure was updated to reflect the new definition being used for the physical activity leading health indicator (Healthy People 2010). Engaging in leisure-time physical activities includes not only a report of light-moderate physical activity but also a report of vigorous physical activity. Specifically, regular leisure-time physical activity was defined as engaging in light to moderate leisure-time physical activities for ≥30 minutes ≥5 times per week or engaging in vigorous leisure-time physical activities for ≥20 minutes ≥3 times per week. The analysis excluded 554 persons with unknown physical activity participation.

bullet graphicFor both sexes combined, the percent of adults who engaged in regular leisure-time physical activities decreased with age.

bullet graphicWomen were less likely than men to engage in regular leisure-time physical activities in age groups 18-24 years, 25-64 years, and 75 years and over.
