CDC's Laboratory Outreach Communication System (LOCS)

Audience: Clinical Laboratory Professionals

Level: Lab Advisory

On July 27, 2022, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced that it has produced positive control material that can help ensure the accuracy of mpox virus tests, to validate laboratory-developed tests, or to determine test sensitivity. NIST is making this material freely available to test manufacturers and testing laboratories. This effort supports the rapid expansion of mpox testing in the United States.

Refer to the NIST news release and the NIST Mpox Synthetic DNA PCR Standards page for more detailed information.
