New and Updated Ethylene Oxide Hemoglobin Adduct Data Tables Published

CDC has published two sets of data tables for Ethylene Oxide Hemoglobin Adduct (NHANES* variable name: ETHOX) in the National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals. The data tables can be accessed in the online interface by selecting one of the two categories listed below in bold font.

Analysis of Whole Blood, Serum, and Urine Samples, NHANES 1999-2018

  • Ethylene Oxide Hemoglobin Adduct in Non-smokers (2013 – 2018)
  • Ethylene Oxide Hemoglobin Adduct in Smokers (2013 – 2018)

These tables include Ethylene Oxide Hemoglobin Adduct data from NHANES cycles 2013 – 2014 and 2015 – 2016, which are being reissued following temporary withdrawal on April 27, 2023. They reflect the National Center for Health Statistics’ re-release of data files following correction of a calibrator bias. In addition, these tables include summary statistics for newly released data from NHANES 2017 – 2018.

Analysis of Chemicals Found in Cigarette Smoke in a Special Sample of U.S. Adults, NHANES 2011-2016:

  • Ethylene Oxide Hemoglobin Adduct in Non-smokers (2013 – 2014)
  • Ethylene Oxide Hemoglobin Adduct in Smokers (2013 – 2014)

These tables are new and provide ETHOX summary statistics for a special sample of adult participants, including all those who reported smoking cigarettes (NHANES 2013 – 2014).
