HIV and Other Diseases and Conditions

Persons with HIV are disproportionately affected by other sexually transmitted diseases and TB. It is critical that CDC’s HIV prevention efforts focus on HIV, as well as other STDs, TB, and hepatitis to ensure more coordinated and integrated efforts to address risks to health.

• HIV and STDs
  CDC provides national leadership, prevention research, policy development, and scientific information to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and their complications.

• HIV and TB
  People infected with HIV are more likely than uninfected people to become sick with TB. Without treatment, as with other opportunistic infections, HIV and TB can work together to shorten life.

• HIV and Viral Hepatitis
  Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. This condition is most often caused by a virus. In the US, the most common causes of viral hepatitis are hepatitis A, B and C viruses.
