Workshop on Engineering Controls for Preventing Airborne Infections in Workers in Health Care and Related Facilities

CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is convening a "Workshop on Engineering Controls for Preventing Airborne Infections in Workers in Health Care and Related Facilities" to be held July 14-16, 1993, in Cincinnati. Attendance will be limited to 400.

The purpose of the workshop is to review the nature and extent of airborne transmission of infections in workers in health-care and related facilities; review current data and new findings regarding the engineering control of airborne infections that may have relevance to occupational exposures in health-care and other institutions; identify gaps in knowledge that might be filled by directed research; and recommend a national research agenda that, if implemented, would close the gaps and permit reliable recommendations for protecting workers. The workshop format will include speakers and panel discussions addressing 1) aerosol characterization, 2) source characterization and control, 3) building designs, and 4) ventilation designs.

Additional information and registration forms are available from the Project Coordinator (R-2), Engineering Controls Workshop, NIOSH, CDC, 4676 Columbia Parkway, Cincinnati, OH 45226; telephone (513) 841-4321.
