A small percentage of the presenters who will speak at the International Conference of Emerging Infectious Diseases, 2002 have indicated on their disclosure form that they have a potential conflict of interest.

These speakers and their disclosures follow:

Commercial Products/Financial Support  

Gail Bolan: Receives unrestricted educational grants from Pfiser, Abbott, Roche, 3-M and Gen-probe. Her presentation will include discussion of selected collected vaginal swabs for culturing and testing.

C.J. Bostock: His presentation may include discussion of generic approaches to the diagnosis of Foot-and-Mouth Disease.

Keith P. Klugman: receives research funding from Bayer Corporation, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, Chiron Vaccines, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer, Inc., Roche Laboratories, Swiss Serum Institute, Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories. He is also a consultant for Abbott Laboratories, AstraZeneca, Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Bayer Corporation, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, and Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories.

Leonard Mermel: Received past research support form Arrow International, Johnson & Johnson and Biolink.

Diaa E. Salman: Her presentation may include the discussion of commercial respiratory and enteroviruses virus screening panels by Chemical International.

Perry Smith: His presentation may include discussion of two commercial manufacturers, Orion, manufacturer of Symphonia software and the College of American Pathologists who provided the Snomed codes.

Fons UytdeHaag: Is the Director of Vaccine Research for Crucell Holland BV. This company manufactures the commercial products he will discuss.

Unlabeled Use of a Product or a Product For Investigational Use 

James Hughes: His presentation will include discussion of post-exposure prophylaxis for anthrax involving investigational use of antibiotics and vaccine.

Mira Leslie: Will discuss the off labeled use of rabies vaccine for skunks in terms of the control of an outbreak.

Margaret Liu: Her presentation may include the unlabeled use or investigational use DNA vaccine technologies for vaccines.

Carol Palmer: Her presentation will include discussion of a diagnostic test for the rapid diagnosis of malaria infection. The test is sold globally but is under investigational use in the U.S. as it is not yet approved by the FDA.

Significant relationship with External Funding Source  

Donald F. Hunt: Is a consultant and stock owner; research support for MDS Proteomics and consultant, research support for ThermoFinnigan Corporation. His presentation may include the discussion of mass spectrometry instrumentation, a product for investigational use.

Alexander Platanov: His study is supported by a grant form the Department of Health and Human Services, Biotechnology Engagement Program.

This form will be placed in the session hand out materials that will be given to all attendees prior to the start of conference.
