Healthy People Vision Objectives
Healthy People is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and in Healthy People 2010 (HP 2010), for the first time, included a chapter on vision as well as hearing. HP 2010 established the national goal to “improve the visual and hearing health of the nation through prevention, early detection, treatment, and rehabilitation.”
Healthy People 2020
In Healthy People 2020external icon, National Eye Institute served as the lead agency for the vision objectives. CDC/VHI served on the Healthy People 2020 Vision Work Group and assisted in setting up the direction for eye health and safety for the next decade. The Healthy People 2020 Vision objectives focus on evidence-based interventions to preserve sight and prevent blindness. Objectives address screening and examinations for children and adults, early detection and timely treatment of eye diseases and conditions, injury prevention, and the use of vision rehabilitation services.
