1.

Identity Disclosure occurs if a third party can identify a subject or respondent from the released data.

Example

A data table includes information about a rare cause of death at the county level.

A data table includes information about a woman who has 18 children.

2.

Example

Tabular data shows characteristics of hospitals, such as age of patients and numbers of patients. If one hospital does not see patients over age 18 years, it can be deduced that the facility is a children’s hospital. Hence, this attribute might help identify the facility, so it cannot be released.
