PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This enduring activity is designed to educate health care workers about basic concepts related to TB prevention and control in the United States.

OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of the session, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe what causes tuberculosis (TB).
  2. Explain how TB is spread.
  3. Explain the difference between latent TB infection and TB disease.
  4. List the methods that can be used to test for TB infection.
  5. Describe the process of diagnosing tuberculosis disease.
  6. Explain why latent TB infection (LTBI) is treated.
  7. Describe treatment regimens for LTBI.
  8. Describe the preferred treatment regimen for TB disease.
  9. Describe TB treatment adherence strategies.
  10. Describe my role, responsibilities, and scope of practice as a team member.
