2013 Funding (Year 4)

  • Amount of funding: $300,000
  • Description of Project
    Awardee will:
    • Implement a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Project with Laboratory Services to improve quality and increase efficiency of operations
    • Conduct a Kaizen Generation Two Project with the Permit Unit to improve quality and further increase efficiency of operations
    • Continue the work and development of a plan to increase revenue collected in Parish Health Units for personal health services
    • Implement an electronic health record system in its Office of Public Health clinics
    • Maintain the LSS project in Environmental Health Sanitarian Services, and purchase and implement a new information technology program for the Center of Environmental Health
    • Continue to complete accreditation prerequisites

2012 Funding (Year 3)

  • Amount of funding: $300,000
  • Description of Project
    Awardee will:
    • Develop an agency-wide strategic plan
    • Complete an accreditation readiness self-assessment and an accreditation readiness gap analysis
    • Develop an action plan to address areas where the Public Health Accreditation Board standards have not been met
    • Provide ongoing monitoring of its Management Dashboard on key performance indicators to identify areas where additional support is needed
    • Complete a Lean Six Sigma project in a defined program area to improve quality and increase efficiency of operations

2011 Funding (Year 2)

  • Amount of funding: $300,000
  • Description of Project
    Awardee will:
    • Support the retention of a "Performance Improvement Manager," who will serve as manager of the newly created Health Improvement Support Unit (HISU)
    • Enhance visibility of current and future data sources by funding 0.1 FTE for the Office of Public Health (OPH) Information Technology Project Manager, which sits in the HISU, is directly supervised by the HISU manager, and is responsible for managing all OPH information technology projects
    • Use the Turning Point Performance Management Model as a framework for its HISU to implement a performance management system
    • Develop/purchase management dashboard software that will allow tracking of key performance indicators in priority areas
    • Develop a culture focused on quality improvement by developing and integrating a quality improvement module into the new employee orientation program
    • Implement Lean Six Sigma Projects in areas where process improvement is necessary
    • Improve the efficiency and the timeliness in which retail food inspections are posted by providing electronic tablets for field sanitarians; this will allow sanitarians to directly enter retail food inspections into Eat Safe Louisiana, a public site where results of retail food inspections are posted, thus eliminating the need for redundant data entry and ensuring the timely posting of results

2010 Funding (Year 1)

  • Description of Project:
    Awardee will:
    • Focus on building, institutionalizing, and implementing performance management capacity within health departments
    • Support full-time "Performance Improvement Manager" who will participate in a national network of performance improvement professionals supported by CDC
