NHANES data indicate the seroprevalence of HSV-2 in the United States has decreased from 1999–2000 to 2015–2016; age-adjusted seroprevalence declined from 18.0% in 1999–2000 to 12.1% in 2015–2016. Although these declines were observed among all race and Hispanic ethnicity groups, HSV-2 seroprevalence was highest among non-Hispanic Blacks throughout the entire time period.
