Core Research Project

For the full funding period of 2014-2019, the 26 PRCs each have one Core Research Project as their one main public health prevention research project. The 26 five-year projects are required to be at least 50% of the PRC’s Core Award.

Special Interest Projects (SIPS)

In budget years one and two, the 54 Special Interest Projects (SIPS) are prevention research projects sponsored by a CDC Center, Institute, or Organization that focus on a topic of interest or a gap in scientific evidence. They are funded by CDC and selected through competitive peer-review. Each project is funded for at least one year, but many are multi-year projects.

Other Funded Projects (OFP)

In budget years one and two, the 640 Other Funded Projects (OFP) are projects of the PRC that were at least partially funded by a source other than the PRC Core Award during the budget year being reported. CDC Prevention Research Centers have the infrastructure and resources that allow the center to conduct additional research, activities, and services outside the PRC Core Award.

Projects Found Effective

In budget years one and two, the 70 Projects Found Effective, where defined as PRC Projects found successful in filling a gap in public health knowledge, public health practice, or in producing the intended public health result. This includes only projects that have been at least partially supported (e.g., funded by the PRC, use of staff/faculty time or other resources) by PRC funds during the budget year. They must also have been determined “Effective” or “Promising” by a new source during the budget year being reported.

Books and Book Chapters

In budget years one and two, 24 Books and Book Chapters were published by the PRC network. This includes books authored by faculty or staff and includes new editions of books previously published.

Journal Articles

In budget years one and two, the 930 Journal Articles are peer-reviewed journal articles published by the PRC network. These are scholarly articles written by experts and reviewed by the experts in the same field before publication.

Peer-Reviewed Conference Presentations

In budget years one and two, the 915 Peer-Reviewed Conference Presentations are scientific conference presentations by the PRC network. This is the number of scientific conference presentations by PRC-related personnel. They were peer reviewed and delivered at an academic or professional meeting. They do not include presentations given as part of a course or training.

In budget years one and two, the 482 Other Products included websites, factsheets, policy briefs, Facebook, annual reports, and brochures. The number does not include research and practice tools.

People Trained

In budget years one and two, the 28,497 People Trained included 1,755 students. The training provided a new skill or new knowledge via learning sessions funded or administered by a PRC.
