Chagas Disease: What U.S. Clinicians Need to Know

Counseling for the Patient Found to Have Chronic T. cruzi Infection

Patients with positive results on T. cruzi serologic tests should be counseled not to donate blood, even if they receive a full course of antitrypanosomal treatment.

Diagnostic screening should be offered for family members who may have had exposure to the parasite in endemic settings and for all children of infected women.

Patient fact sheets in both English and Spanish are available for download at http://www.cdc.gov/chagas
