Several organizations capture information on housing status or homelessness in the U.S.
- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is conducted each year in communities across the U.S. Information is collected and a count is taken of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on a single night, typically in January. - The U.S. Department of Education collects data on youth through school information during the academic year. For more information, visit: National Center for Homeless Education
- CDC includes questions about housing instability and homelessness in numerous surveys and surveillance systems such including: the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS), the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System (NHBS), and the National Vital Statistics System (NVSS).
