Deputy Director for Management and Operations

Lovisa Romanoff, MS, MPH

Lovisa Romanoff, MS, MPH is Deputy Director for Management and Operations (DDMO) for the Office of Readiness and Response (ORR). In this role, she provides senior-level leadership in several areas including strategy, budget, communications, program development, management and operations, policy and congressional relations.

Before joining ORR, Ms. Romanoff was the Deputy Director of the Division of Laboratory Science in the National Center for Environmental Health. In this role she oversaw the management and operations of the division’s seven branches and the Office of the Director. She also provided leadership for division science strategy and partnership.

Ms. Romanoff has served in a variety of roles at CDC, accruing extensive cross-functional knowledge and experience from scientific, programmatic, and administrative perspectives. She started her CDC career as a laboratory scientist, with her early research focused on assessing human exposure to environmental chemicals and toxic substances.

In other roles at CDC, Ms. Romanoff served as the Deputy Branch Chief for the Laboratory Reference and Research Branch in the Division of STD Prevention, National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention and as the acting Deputy Director in CDC’s Office of Science. She also volunteered in temporary appointments leading budget development during CDC’s Ebola response and CDC’s response to the 2017 and 2018 hurricanes and, most recently, in multiple leadership roles during the CDC COVID-19 response.

Ms. Romanoff has a bachelor’s degree and Master of Science degree in chemical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of South Florida.
