Occupational Injuries and Adolescents
- Pediatricians should consider occupational injuries in the diagnosis and treatment of sick working adolescents.
- Working more than 20 hours per week has been associated with increased drug and alcohol use, fatigue and stress. Child labor laws prohibit teens from working late and/or long hours.
- Many young workers are injured because they don’t speak up.
- Young people often do not realize they can question things in the very adult world of work.
