Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)

Inadequate Sleep (< 7 Hours)§ – 2013 BRFSS, 21 States

The following tables show the percent of survey respondents who said they get inadequate sleep by industry and by occupation. Inadequate sleep was defined as less than 7 hours per 24-hour period.  We produced these tables using the 2013 BRFSS Industry and Occupation Module data, a non-public dataset. To collect important demographic information for employed adults, the CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) sponsored the BRFSS industry and occupation (I&O) optional module for years 2013–2017. Data on “inadequate sleep” are not collected every year. In addition to the information presented below, data were collected in 2014. We analyzed the survey responses in SAS 9.3 using the SURVEYFREQ procedure.
