The Body Art program was established by authority of the Colorado Body Art Act on May 23, 2000. This act allowed the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, in conjunction with local health agencies, body artists and the staff of the Consumer Protection Division, to assemble regulations for body art businesses statewide. The “Rules and Regulations for body Art Establishments” was subsequently adopted by the Colorado Board of Health, and became effective on August 30, 2001.
