The mission of the NIOSH Hearing Loss Prevention Cross-Sector Research Program is to provide national and world leadership to reduce the prevalence of occupational hearing loss.

NIOSH and OSHA published a co-branded Safety and Health Information Bulletin warning of a potentially serious workplace hazard. It provides recommendations to employers and safety professionals about identifying ototoxicants in the workplace and establishing hearing conservation programs where these chemicals cannot be replaced.

NIOSH researchers analyzed data from the 2014 National Health Interview Survey to estimate the prevalence of occupational noise exposure, hearing difficulty and heart conditions within U.S. industries and occupations. They also looked at the association between workplace noise exposure and heart conditions.
