Activity/Output Number Description Status
3.3.1 Evaluate developing the PtD equivalent of the “Energy Star” designation. Contact the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)/Department of Energy (DOE) to learn more about how Energy Star was implemented.

3.3.2 Investigate potential barriers toward the concept of “safety” certification of tools.

3.3.3 Review existing criteria for manual and power tools in resources such as: Workers and Their Tools: A Guide to the Ergonomic Design of Handtools and Small Presses, by Led Greenberg and Don B. Chaffin, and “Ergonomics of Power Tools,” by NIOSH and Rob Radwin.

3.3.4 Determine the scope and evaluation criteria.

3.3.5 Determine the appropriate agency/organization(s) to certify designs and manage/maintain the overall process.
