New York State public employee labor unions worked in coalition with other occupational safety and health advocates for passage of comprehensive workplace violence prevention legislation for over a decade. The law was signed on June 7, 2006 and has led to development of workplace violence prevention programs in significant parts of New York State's public sector. In this session panelists will: 1.Describe the extent and effect of workplace violence on public sector workers, recipients, and agencies. 2. Summarize the campaign to pass the law and the struggle to promulgate regulations. 3. Discuss the impact of the law and regulations on the development of workplace violence prevention programs.
