Psychosomatic Medicine: Its Clinical Applications. Wittkower ED, Warnes H eds., Hagerstown, MD: Harper & Row, 1977 Jan; :290-301
This chapter is concerned with understanding those patients who have special problems associated with disorders of the muscles, joints, or bones, with accompanying disability. Such understanding - which I have based on experience with patients on the psychosomatic ward and in psychiatric consultations on the medical and surgical wards of the Cincinnati General Hospital, on psychiatric consultations for occupational physicians, and on some pertinent points in the literature - provides the rationale for recommendations regarding the psychosomatic aspects of medical management of these patients by general physicians.
