Los gases anestésicos residuales son pequeñas cantidades de gases anestésicos volátiles que salen del circuito de anestesia del paciente* al aire de los quirófanos durante la administración de la anestesia. Estos gases también pueden ser exhalados por los pacientes mientras se recuperan de la anestesia. Los gases anestésicos residuales incluyen tanto el óxido nitroso como los agentes anestésicos halogenados, a saber, el halotano, el enflurano, el isoflurano, el desflurano, el sevoflurano y el metoxiflurano (este último ya no se usa en Estados Unidos). Los anestésicos halogenados a menudo se administran junto con el óxido nitroso, el cual, al igual que algunos anestésicos halogenados, puede significar un riesgo para los trabajadores hospitalarios. Objetivos de este folleto: 1. Ampliar el conocimiento sobre los efectos adversos de los gases anestésicos residuales. 2.
