Proceedings of the 6th Annual Institute on Coal Mining Health, Safety and Research, Blacksburg, Virginia, August 26-28, 1975. Foreman-WE, ed., Blacksburg, VA: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, 1975 Aug; :161-202
Current research in fires and explosions is reviewed. Hardware items are emphasized so as to provide tangible indications of progress. In this way, explosion research is presented as a progress report on the ignition quenching device for methane ignitions and on triggered barriers and passive barriers for coal dust explosion suppression; fire research is presented in terms of detection methods for incipient combustion and of hardware for the remote sealing of mine fires.
