The American workplace is rapidly changing as economic conditions, technology, corporate and employment practices, and demographic trends evolve. Jobs in our economy continue to shift from manufacturing to services, with the service sector now employing more than 70% of all workers. Longer hours, compressed workweeks, shift work, reduced job security, and part-time and temporary work are realities of the modern workplace, and the work force itself is becoming more diverse.
