As part of its mission, investigating hazards in the workplace, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is studying the various carcinogenic substances in use in industry. One of these substances, benzidine, a demonstrated human carcinogen has been under study for approximately one year by the division of field studies and clinical investigations. In that time, industrial hygiene surveys of the manufacturers of benzidine have been performed, and the attention of the division has been turned to the large scale use of benzidine. this report is one of several dealing with the industrial hygiene practices of benzidine users.
